ESTIMATION STATION at STEAM NIGHT
Due 3/9/2020, please turn into the office
THE SCHOOL NEEDS YOUR HELP! Could you donate an estimation station jar for STEAM Night give away?
A favorite part of our STEAM Night tradition is the Estimation Station. Students use their estimation skills to try and calculate how many items are in the jar. If they guess the closest, they win the jar.
This requires lot of families and staff to submit jars for guessing. It could be a container of marbles, M&M's, gumballs, jelly beans, gummy bears, lego pieces, pennies, any little thing students would like estimate to win. Fox has a tradition of offering a lot of jars so lots of kids can join in the fun of using their math skills to estimate and take home a prize.
Please bring jars to the office with the answer written in secret on the bottom on a piece of tape before March 9th. Thank you!
FOX SCHOOL GARDEN
Drop by the FOX GARDEN TABLE at STEAM NIGHT on MARCH 11th!
Your child can pick up a package of mammoth sunflower seeds to plant at home! Will they grow as tall as they are by the end of summer?
Check out the garden board to see pictures of the sunflowers that students planted last year and their winter crops. Weather permitting, there will be a book walk featured in the garden during STEAM night.
We are always looking for volunteers to help students with gardening, and other special activities such as watercolor painting, making bird feeders and Earth Day activities.
If you are interested in volunteering, have any questions or want to be added to the garden email list, please contact our PTA Garden Chair, Lianne Lauda at email@example.com.
DOROTHY FOX CLAY ART PROJECT
All School Clay Artist in Residence
Spring Artist - Ceramic Relief Tiles
This Spring, our students have been working with Karie Oakes to create self-portraits out of clay. As the students study their own face, Karie has discussed proportion and symmetry with them. They have also been gaining skills working with clay and ceramics. Each class has four sessions with our Artist-In-Residence. At the end of their time together, each child will have their completed ceramic relief tile! These tiles will be on display to view and take home on STEAM Night.
THANK YOU: A special THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who have helped in the classroom. There have been many moving parts for this artist residency to happen. The PTA is grateful for each volunteer who came in to help students create their unique art pieces. And a HUGE thanks to the kiln volunteers. Unloading and reloading our kiln is a time consuming task. We are SO GRATEFUL to the parents who stepped up to help. Thank you so much!
STEAM NIGHT: Please be sure to visit the gallery showing of these pieces during STEAM night. Each tile is unique and they are all amazing in their own way. We look forward to sharing these works of art with all of you!
Class photos and individual options!
Please make sure your student is in class this day so they will be included in the class picture.
Order forms sent home in Friday folders.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
IN THE LIBRARY
3/23 - 3/26
Stop by the book fair when you come to lunch with your student on Bring your Adult to Lunch Day!
Do you want to support books and reading? Sign up to help with the DFE Spring Book Fair!
We need help setting up, taking down, and running the book fair.
Thank you for helping to grow our readers!
eWALLET AT THE BOOK FAIR
eWallet is a great new way for students to pay at the book fair! Your child shops the book fair cash-free, spending up to the limit you set. It is also a new way to provide funds for your, teacher, or anyone in the Dorothy Fox community!
eWallet is available starting on March 9th!
Simply create an account for the student or staff member you’d like to gift with funds, print their fold-able card (optional), and present it to them. Recipients can shop for books up to the amount designated by you (your card will only be charged for the amount they actually spend). Did your student forget their card? No problem—we can look them up at the fair!
EVENING SHOPPING: Our evening event (Thursday, March 26 from 5-7 PM) will be a “Grand” event. Students are invited to come shop the book fair, play games, and read with a “Grand” person in their lives. If your child has a “Grand” person who is not local, we encourage them to set up an eWallet for the student. This allows them to be part of our book fair from any distance. Families are also welcome to come shop.
FOX NATURAL PLAYGROUND UPDATE
Thank you to our PTA membership who voted and approved the new budget for the natural playground at our most recent PTA meeting. We are moving forward quickly now to get the area prepped and approved. We are hoping to start moving the dirt and complete grading work in the Spring!
Next week our Student Leadership Team will be meeting with their assigned classes to let our students vote on two different options for the play structure portion of the natural playground. This should get our students excited about the new addition!
If you would like to help, we are looking for a used canoe that we add for imaginative play and we are looking for families interested in building some benches (we can give you easy building plans). This is great activity to build something with your kids! We will continue to keep our Fox community updated and hope you will join us this spring for our volunteer build a natural playground day! www.dorothyfoxpta.com/fox-hollow-playground
